Science and Engineering Fair with their project on “Board game for people with anxiety disorders”
The “Huyen Vi” project, created by Nguyen Lam Kim My, introduces a board game specifically designed to support people with anxiety disorders. Recognizing the growing mental health challenges among students often caused by stigma and the difficulty of seeking support from parents and guardians, Kim My set out to create a healing board game in scientific principles.
By creatively combining traditional Vietnamese Bingo with specialized cards and dice, the game aims to reduce stress and promote emotional well-being. The implementation process involved setting clear objectives, designing culturally inspired visuals, producing handcrafted components such as cards and wooden boxes, and conducting initial testing with middle and high school students.
Gameplay centers around using Bingo boards along with Challenge, Take, and Lose cards, incorporating proven anxiety-reduction techniques like the 54321 method and meditation directly into the player experience. “Huyền Vi” stands out by merging entertainment with therapy in a non-stigmatizing, accessible format, creatively blending Vietnamese traditions with modern psychological practices.
It thoughtfully targets both the emotional and social aspects of anxiety, offering a meaningful, engaging resource for mental health support. Looking ahead, Kim My plans to refine and improve the game based on player feedback to enhance its therapeutic effectiveness and reach an even broader audience.
