Library Program: Cultivating Lifelong Learning Habits

The library is situated at the heart of the school and is accessible to all students. It serves as a shared learning space that supports reading, research, and information use across different age groups.

The Library program and resources are structured to support regular reading practices and independent use of library materials as part of students’ learning routines.

The EMASI Library Program: A Core Component of the Curriculum

The EMASI Library Program is an integral part of the academic curriculum. It includes weekly scheduled classes and a clearly defined learning pathway across all grade levels.

In Lower Primary, library sessions introduce students to books and stories through guided bilingual read-aloud activities aligned with the EMASI English Curriculum. In Upper Primary, students are introduced to independent reading routines, a range of literary genres, and basic information use through print and digital resources.

In Lower Secondary, the program exposes students to different reading formats, digital resources, and introductory research tasks, with attention to appropriate use of information. In Upper Secondary, students work with digital and academic sources, practice research processes, and follow established conventions for referencing and citation.

Beyond reading and academic development, the library is a vibrant space for thematic book exhibitions. It also hosts storytelling sessions, reading clubs, reading projects, reading buddy activities, seasonal reading challenges, and guest speaker author visits.

Supporting Reading Development

The library serves as a central point for coordinating reading activities across grade levels. Reading is supported through collaboration between the library program and classroom teaching, with families encouraged to take part in reading routines where appropriate. Students receive guidance in selecting reading materials suited to their age and reading stage, and opportunities are provided for students to share and discuss their reading within classroom and library contexts.

The EMASI Library as a Learning Space

Each EMASI library is designed as a shared learning space within the school. The library includes a range of areas that support different learning needs, such as quiet reading, individual study, group work, and class-based activities. Spaces and furnishings are planned to be age-appropriate and accessible for students across grade levels.

Students have access to a wide range of print and digital resources, selected to support the EMASI curriculum and independent reading. The collection includes materials across different subjects and genres, allowing students to use the library for both academic study and personal reading.
