Early Years Program

Designed to meet the developmental needs of children aged 2 to 5, the EMASI Early Years Program combines best practices in Early Years education, including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework from the UK, Montessori approaches, and play-based learning, while adhering to the requirements set by the national Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

EMASI is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS), providing a professional reference framework that supports the structured and thoughtful implementation of Montessori principles within the Early Years program.

This program is delivered within a learning environment fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), ensuring high-quality education and global recognition.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework

Our curriculum is structured around seven Areas of Learning and Development, as outlined in the EYFS and as shown in the visual summary of the Characteristics of Effective Learning and Teaching.

  1. Communication and Language
  2. Personal Development
  3. Social and Emotional Development
  4. Physical Development
  5. Understanding the World
  6. Expressive Arts and Design
  7. Mathematics

These domains support cognitive and social development, ensuring that students acquire a well-rounded, inquiry-driven foundation that prepares them for future academic success.

The curriculum gives deliberate attention to Physical Education, Swimming, Music, and Library studies. Learning experiences are structured to encourage regular interaction with teachers, peers, and the learning environment. Through play, exploration, and guided activities, students develop early communication skills, social awareness, and foundational literacies that support their transition into primary education.

Language Development in a Bilingual Setting

Early literacy, including phonics and early writing, forms an important foundation for later learning. To support this, our bilingual model offers daily instruction in both English and Vietnamese. We implement a dual-language phonics program that combines the MOET curriculum with a systematic synthetic phonics curriculum validated by the UK Department for Education that equips students with essential reading skills. The bilingual approach helps students develop flexible language skills, preparing them for Elementary School and beyond.

A Learning Environment Designed for Early Years

The Early Years learning environment at EMASI is designed to support young children’s developmental needs in a safe and well-organized setting. Open classroom layouts with minimal physical barriers allow children to interact more freely with peers and teachers throughout the day. This design supports daily bilingual exposure and encourages learning through play, movement, and exploration.

Montessori-inspired learning materials are thoughtfully integrated to support independence, concentration, sensory development, and early problem-solving, while maintaining alignment with the overall curriculum framework. This approach is informed by professional guidance and practices referenced by the American Montessori Society (AMS), ensuring that Montessori principles are applied in a developmentally appropriate and consistent manner.

Dedicated and Qualified Educators

The Early Years program is supported by educators with training and experience in early childhood education. Teachers work closely with students to guide daily learning activities and routines in a calm and supportive environment. Through observation and interaction, teachers support children’s social development, emerging independence, and engagement with learning activities appropriate to their age.

As an AMS member school, EMASI educators have access to professional learning resources and research that support continuous improvement in Montessori-informed teaching practice.
